The Shepherds
News of Great Joy
Luke 2:8-20about 2 minutes to read aloud

In the fields outside Bethlehem that night, shepherds were keeping watch over their flocks. They sat by small fires. The sheep lay quiet on the hills.
Suddenly an angel of the Lord stood before them. The glory of the Lord shone all around. They were filled with fear.
"Do not be afraid," the angel said. "I bring you good news of great joy for all people. Today, in the city of David, a Savior has been born for you. He is Christ the Lord. This will be the sign — you will find a Baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger."
Then a great crowd of heaven's army appeared with the angel. They were praising God. "Glory to God in the highest. And on earth, peace to those on whom His favor rests."
When the angels had gone back into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let us go to Bethlehem and see this thing." They hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the Baby lying in a manger.
They went back to their fields glorifying God. The first to hear about the King were the ones keeping watch at night.
