Illustration for Isaiah's Vision

In the year that King Uzziah died, the prophet Isaiah saw the Lord. The Lord sat on a throne, high and lifted up. The train of His robe filled the temple.

Above Him stood seraphim — burning ones, each with six wings. With two they covered their faces. With two they covered their feet. And with two they flew.

They called to one another, "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts. The whole earth is full of His glory." The doors shook on their hinges, and the temple filled with smoke.

Isaiah cried out, "Woe is me. I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips — and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts."

One of the seraphim flew to him. He carried a burning coal from the altar. He touched Isaiah's lips. "See. This has touched your lips. Your guilt is taken away. Your sin is forgiven."

Then Isaiah heard the voice of the Lord. "Whom shall I send? Who will go for us?" And Isaiah said, "Here am I. Send me."
