Elijah Goes Home
A Chariot of Fire
2 Kings 2:1-15about 2 minutes to read aloud

The time had come for the Lord to take Elijah home. Elijah and his young friend Elisha walked together from town to town.
The prophets at Bethel said, "Do you know the Lord is taking your master today?" "Yes," Elisha answered. "Be silent."
At the Jordan River, Elijah rolled up his cloak and struck the water. The river parted. The two walked across on dry ground.
"What can I do for you before I am taken?" Elijah asked. "Let me inherit a double share of your spirit," Elisha said. "That is a hard thing. But if you see me as I am taken, it will be yours."
As they walked and talked, a chariot of fire appeared, and horses of fire came between them. Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind. Elisha cried out, "My father, my father!"
Elisha picked up Elijah's cloak. He went back to the Jordan and struck the water. "Where is the Lord, the God of Elijah?" The river parted again. The God of Elijah was with Elisha, too.
