Baby Moses
God Protects
Exodus 2about 2 minutes to read aloud

Many years after Joseph, a new Pharaoh ruled Egypt. He did not remember Joseph. He saw the Hebrew people had grown many, and he was afraid of them. He made them slaves and set cruel masters over them.
Pharaoh gave a terrible command. "Every Hebrew baby boy must be thrown into the Nile." The mothers of Israel wept, and they hid their sons as long as they could.
One woman hid her baby for three months. When she could hide him no longer, she wove a basket of reeds and coated it with tar. She laid her son inside and set the basket among the reeds by the river.
The baby's sister, Miriam, watched from a distance to see what would happen. The river was quiet. The reeds bent in the wind.
Then Pharaoh's daughter came down to the river to bathe. She saw the basket. She opened it and found the baby, and he was crying. Her heart softened. "This is one of the Hebrew children," she said.
Miriam stepped forward. "Shall I find a Hebrew woman to nurse him for you?" So the baby's own mother came and raised him, and he grew up a prince in Pharaoh's house. His name was Moses, which means drawn out. The Lord had already chosen him to set His people free.
