Paul & Silas Sing
Midnight Praise
Acts 16:16-40about 2 minutes to read aloud

Paul and Silas were preaching in the city of Philippi. When they cast a spirit out of a slave girl, her owners were angry, for they had made money from her. They dragged Paul and Silas before the rulers.
The magistrates had them stripped and beaten with rods. Then they threw them into the inner prison, and the jailer fastened their feet in the stocks. Their backs were bleeding. The room was dark.
At midnight, Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God. The other prisoners lay listening. The songs rose in the dark.
Then a great earthquake shook the foundations of the prison. The doors flew open. Every chain came loose.
The jailer woke and saw the doors. He thought the prisoners had escaped, and he drew his sword to kill himself, for the law would take his life for theirs. But Paul called out in the dark. "Do not harm yourself. We are all here."
The jailer called for lights. He rushed in trembling. He fell down before Paul and Silas. "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" They said, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved — you and your household." That very night, he washed their wounds. He and his whole family were baptized. The jailer set a meal before them, and the whole house was full of joy, because they had come to believe in God.
