Palm Sunday

Hosanna in the Highest

Matthew 21:1-11about 2 minutes to read aloud

Illustration for Palm Sunday

Jesus came near to Jerusalem. He sent two of His disciples ahead. "Go to the village. You will find a donkey and her colt tied there. Untie them and bring them to Me. If anyone asks, say, 'The Lord needs them.'"

The disciples went. They found the donkey just as Jesus had said. They threw their cloaks over the colt, and Jesus sat on it.

A great crowd gathered. They spread their cloaks on the road. They cut palm branches and laid them in the way.

The crowds before Him and behind Him shouted, "Hosanna to the Son of David. Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest."

When Jesus came to Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred. "Who is this?" they asked. The crowds answered, "This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee."

The King had come. He did not come on a warhorse. He came on a donkey, as the prophets had said — gentle, and full of peace.
