Illustration for Jesus Raises Lazarus

Jesus had three friends He loved: Mary, Martha, and their brother Lazarus. They lived in a town called Bethany. Word came to Jesus that Lazarus was sick.

Jesus waited two more days. By the time He came to Bethany, Lazarus had been in the tomb four days. Martha ran out to meet Him. "Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died."

Jesus said, "I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live. Do you believe this?" Martha said, "Yes, Lord. I believe."

Jesus came to the tomb. Mary fell at His feet, weeping. The people around her wept too. Jesus saw them. He was deeply moved. Jesus wept.

He came to the tomb. It was a cave, with a stone lying across it. "Take away the stone," He said. Martha said, "Lord, by this time he will smell. He has been dead four days." "Did I not tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God?"

They rolled the stone away. Jesus looked up. "Father, I thank you that you have heard me." Then He cried with a loud voice, "Lazarus, come out." The dead man came out, wrapped in grave cloths. "Unbind him," Jesus said, "and let him go." Many who saw it that day believed in Him.
